Catching Weezers

Attempted Camouflage

We got to see him turn from green
(on the floor of the carport)
to brown in James' hand.
While cleaning out the carport, we found a little lizard and I attempted to catch it for the boys.  Before I could get it, Pirate caught (read: attacked) it and threw it a few feet away.

The lizard landed on its back and stayed there for several seconds.  Bo and I assumed it was dead, but it opened its eyes and was still moving... barely.

His nearly motionless body allowed me to easily "catch" it... and it also allowed each of the boys to "catch" it as well... sheer victory in their minds.  And what do you know?  He didn't try to jump out of their hands either!  Clearly, this is how all lizards react to being caught and held.
James:  "Next time we'll let Pirate do all the work again.  We'll let him catch the lizard so it will get scared and lie down on its back so we can catch him and keep him."
I'm a good dog, yes?
We didn't let James keep the "weezer," as Leyson calls it, knowing that this poor creature was minutes away from entering lizard heaven, so James "released him to the wild..." except that when he put him down on the sidewalk he didn't run into the bushes.

James saw this as a great reason to keep him as a pet.

So, we did what every great parent would do when teaching kids about injuries and death... and murder (bad Pirate)... we distracted James, threw the lizard into the bushes and exclaimed, "Wow!  He ran in those bushes fast!  Let's go find some more lizards!"

Sending "Weezer" off into the wild.
We found another "weezer" inside a cardboard box.
The lizard jumped out of the box and scared Leyson, who then couldn't stop laughing.
On the hunt again...
"Wook for weezers in weaves."  (Leyson)
To find a lizard, you gotta think like a lizard.
Daddy found another one in the carport!
I found a Weeson!

Watch Lena Grow

Mommy made Lena's bumper and quilt.
Using the scraps from the bedding, I made her a matching tutu.

Each month, we are going to log how much Baby Girl has grown by measuring her on her quilt and wearing her matching (adjustable) tutu.

Thank you, Aunt Crista,
for  my newborn onesie and
month-by-month onesie stickers!!!
Love, Lena

... stay tuned...

Mission: Compromised

Bo caught me taking a few me-moments... just me and some chocolate... well-deserved after a crazy day with the kids.  And no, I wasn't crying, I was embarrassed (and mad) that I was caught!

Mmmmm... Relish.

Leyson:  "Mom, I want 'a-rade (gatorade), pweaaase."
Me:  "We don't have any."
Leyson:  "Puh-weeeeeaaaase?"
Me (opening the fridge):  "We are out, see?  Look.  We have, let's see... milk and um... relish.  We are seriously out of everything.  So do you want milk or relish?"
Leyson:  "Um... relish."
Me:  "Haha... no.  You can have water."
Leyson:  "Yeah!  Milk!"

Poor Baseball

When we came home, I put Lena who was asleep in her car seat carrier behind the sofa.  Leyson jumped on the sofa and threw a baseball over the back, just missing Lena.
Me:  "Leyson, be careful!  Baby Sister is right there!"
Leyson:  "Oh no!!!"
Me:  "It's ok.  It didn't hit her."
Leyson:  "No... the baseball!  Went under sofa!!!"
Sneaky Kid
and Adorable too!!!

Lena's 1st (real) Bath

That's a big fancy bath tub for a wittle bitty girl!

I love my bath pancho!

Keep Rollin Rollin Rollin

I hate tummy time!!!
Maybe it doesn't have to be this way?
Can I make it over?
This is soooo hard!!!
I made it!  Is it over yet?
You're going to make me do it again, aren't you?
I don't think it was a fluke!  She did this 2 more times too.

Creative Brain

Leyson definitely has a creative brain!  He found these two sticks and came up with several different uses for them all on his own!
"Look, Mom!  Druuuuums!"
"Dance, Mom!  Dance!"
"It flyin up high in the sky!......................  Ooooh! a 'T'!"
"X!"
"V!"
He also pretended to paint with the sticks; we have a new invisible mural on the back of my sofa.  Then he made the sticks walk around the house.  Leyson also played the violin with the sticks and made tracks for his train. I wonder what else he can come up with after nap time!
